用法1
用來加強語氣或表示強調(diào)，意為：事實上; 其實。如：
I don’t have a car. As a matter of fact, I can’tdrive. 我沒有汽車，事實上我開車都不會。
I think so, and as a matter of fact, I’m quite sureof it. 我是這樣想的，事實上我也十分相信是這樣(from www.nmet168.com)。
I didn’t see him—as a matter of fact I didn’ttry. 我沒有去看他，事實上我根本就沒想去。
用法2
用來引出與聽話人期待相反的事實，意為：事實上恰恰相反。如：
He doesn’t mind. As a matter of fact, he’s verypleased. 他不在意，相反他還很高興。
A：He’s too old for the job. 他年紀(jì)太大了，不適合做這項工作。
B：Well, he’s younger than you, as a matter of fact. 但事實上，他比你要年輕。
A：You must have spoken to him today. 你今天肯定和他談過了吧。
B：As a matter of fact, I haven’t. 恰恰還沒有。
A：You’re always late for work. 你上班總是遲到。
B：No, I’m not. As a matter of fact, I’m nearly alwaysearly. 不是的，事實上恰恰相反，我?guī)缀蹩偸窃绲健?BR> 注：以上用法中的 as a matter of fact 也可以換成 infact 而意義不變。
