1. because of 是復(fù)合介詞，其后可接名詞或代詞，動名詞以及由關(guān)系代詞型的所what 引導(dǎo)的從句等(但不能接that從句)。如：
He lost his job because of his age. 由于年齡關(guān)系他失去工作。
I said nothing about it, because of his wife’s being there.
因為他妻子在那兒，我對此事一字未提。
He knew she was crying because of what he had said.

注：請注意下列正誤句子：
正：He cannot go to school because of sickness. / He cannot go to school because he is sick. 他因病不能上學(xué)。
誤：He cannot go to school because of (that) he is sick.
2. 由because of 構(gòu)成的介詞短語一般只用作狀語，而不用作表語。作表語時可用due to。如：
誤：Tom’s absence was because of the rain.
正：Tom’s absence was due to the rain. 湯姆因下雨不能到場。
注：在閱讀中有時也可見到because of 短語用作表語，但值得注意的是，此時句子的主語通常中代詞而不是名詞。如：
It is because of hard work. 那是因為勞累的原因。
That will be because of money. 那將是因為金錢的緣故。
