    The typical American college’s support forextracurricular activity is perhaps unique in the world, This specialeducational dimension, beyond the classroom and laboratory experience, does notmean that extracurricular participation is required to gain an American degree.It remains an entirely optional activity, but (49)it is noted herebecause Americans have traditionally viewed success in one’s role as acitizen as closely linked to a “well-rounded”life thatincorporates a variety of social, athletic, and cultural activities into aperson’s experience.
