Yokohama National University seeks adventurous, world-class students for the YOKOHAMA Creative-City Studies (YCCS) program. The program will offer innovative interdisciplinary courses for future leaders. The classes will be taught in English, but students will also learn the Japanese language intensively during their studies. Through the program, the students are expected to develop key skills for global leaders such as multilingual and cross-cultural communication, teamwork, leadership, project planning and organizing, as well as to acquire professional knowledge in their major subjects.

Our program has two distinctive features. First, we offer a North American course-based curriculum with specializations in international economics and labor economics. Second, we also offer a policy-oriented program employing both comparative economic systems and political economy approaches.
Graduates of the M.A. Program (typically taking two years) will leave YNU with a broad, but elevated level of knowledge in economics. Together with an in-depth knowledge of domestic, regional, and international affairs in both developed and emerging economies, graduates can apply their learning to future careers; be it in government, the private sector or academia.

The M.A. Program welcomes not only those applicants straight out of a Bachelor’s degree, but also those who already have some work experience and who strive to improve and augment their existing knowledge of economics to a level equivalent to a North American or European graduate school.
Graduates of the Ph.D. Program in Economics (typically three years) will have acquired skills essential towards conducting leading-edge research and publish in peer-reviewed journals and to present at international conferences. Students in the Ph.D. Program will develop particular strengths in the fields of international economics and labor economics, as well as in comparative economic systems and international political economy. They will also have the opportunity to acquire high-level research skills in various methods of empirical analyses and the ability to produce policy-oriented papers to further the development of emerging economies.

The Ph.D. Program seeks candidates who have already obtained the skills and knowledge in economics at a Master’s level and who have a strong motivation and the aptitude to continue studying economics at a deeper level both theoretical and empirically. After completion of their doctoral degree, graduates would typically go on (or return) to a career in academics, work at international organizations, or return to a high-level government position in their home country.

Special graduate program of civil engineering
土木工程特殊研究生課程
The department of civil engineering has initiated the concept of Special graduate program targeting foreign student who are not able to take courses in Japanese.The special graduate program is specially designed as Doctoral and Master graduate program for foreign student in which the Department of Civil Engineering, Yokohama National University offers courses in English. Full time attendance for three years starting from the winter term (beginning from October) is necessary for a doctor's course, and two years for a master's course. Course work and research work are required. The program is rather research oriented although course work is necessary. Courses are offered in English and all dissertation works including adviser's guidance, progress report, writing and presentation are done in English.
土木工程學(xué)院開設(shè)了特殊研究生課程，針對沒有能力學(xué)習(xí)日語課程的國外學(xué)生。該特殊研究生課程用英語授課，是專門為國外學(xué)生提供的博士和碩士研究生項目。該項目為全日制項目，從冬季學(xué)期(十月開始)開始開課;博士課程學(xué)習(xí)期限為三年，碩士課程學(xué)習(xí)期限為兩年。項目要求課程學(xué)習(xí)和研究工作。雖然有課程學(xué)習(xí)，但是項目主要內(nèi)容為研究。課程都是用英語教授，所有論文相關(guān)工作(導(dǎo)師指導(dǎo)、進(jìn)展報告、寫作和展示)全用英語。

Student can enrol for this program both Spring (April) and Fall (October) intake. However, the department recommended scholarships are only available for October intake. About six scholarships are allocated to this program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho), Japan for candidate student with excellent academic records.
At present 23 graduate students including 18 Doctoral student and 5 Master degree students are pursuing their study under this program. By the end of September 2012, Doctoral degree and Master degree has been awarded under special graduate program in English.

The Department of Business Administration of the Graduate School of International Social Sciences (GSISS) at Yokohama National University (YNU) offers a Ph.D. degree program taught entirely in English: the Doctoral Program in Japanese Management.
Japanese firms and Japanese management practices have become well known all around the world. Japanese management covers many areas of business administration, including strategy, organization, management of technology, accounting, and management science. The many characteristics of Japanese management offer the opportunity to obtain meaningful insights through in-depth study and comparison with management characteristics of other countries and regions.

Our Japanese management program seeks to admit applicants who have a deep interest in Japanese management, sufficient masters degree level understanding of the relevant field(s) and have the potential to conduct high-level original research that furthers the understanding and the application of such management to new contexts. 2. Program Requirements
In order to obtain a Ph.D. in Business Administration, a student must successfully complete 20 credits or more, and then undertake the successful proposal, submission, and oral defense of a doctoral dissertation. An overall GPA of 2.0 (max: 4.5) or better for courses taken at YNU is also required for graduation.

Doctoral Program in Transnational Law and Policy, Department of International and Business Law

In 2013, the Department of International and Business Law at Yokohama National University launched a new doctoral program taught entirely in English. The program is designed to provide students with legal knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in international organizations and transnational civil society organizations in various areas of global policy making. We seek motivated students from all over the world, who are eager to work in such fields. Graduates of the Doctoral Program in Transnational Law and Policy will be able to conduct leading-edge research and to publish their research at international conferences and in international journals (both academic and policy-oriented). They will also have the opportunity to acquire high-level research skills in various methods of empirical and theoretical analysis so as to enable them to produce policy-oriented papers.
