    1.Notifications
    Okayama University offers international students a wide range of support and services to help enrich their study abroad experience.
    Notifications are occasionally sent to international students by various offices. These notifications are posted on bulletin boards outside of the Center for Global Partnerships and Education, your faculty, the Career Development Center, and other relevant buildings and offices.
    Please be sure to regularly check these bulletin boards for notifications containing important information. Not keeping up to date with the latest notifications may result in missing out on some important information.

    2.Checking the Okayama University Website
    Emergency information may also be posted on the Okayama University website. During an emergency, please try to check the Okayama University website as frequently as possible.

    3.Emergency Numbers
    Police: Dial 110 (no area code needed/toll-free) to report a crime or traffic accident.
    Fire Department: Dial 119 (no area code needed/toll-free) to report a fire or request an ambulance.
    Dialing these numbers anywhere in Japan will connect you with the nearest police or fire department, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
    You can also use your cell phone to dial these numbers (no area code needed).

    4.Student Commuter Pass
    Undergraduate and graduate students (regular students) can buy a student commuter pass by showing a “Commuter Pass Issuance Permit”, which is issued by the Student Support Division located on the second floor of the General Education Building A. Student in the Divisions of Medicine and Dentistry should apply for a pass permit at the relevant office in their faculty or graduate school.

    5.Part-time Jobs
    International students in Japan with a student visa are, as a rule, not allowed to work, or do any other activity that is unrelated to their studies. However, students who have difficulty paying tuition fees and living expenses on an allowance alone can work for up to 28 hours a week. These students need to apply for "Permission to Engage in Activity Other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence" at their local Immigration Bureau. During holidays, the daily working hour limit is eight hours.
    If you wish to take on a part-time job, you should first discuss with your academic advisor and ask for his/her and receive permission, and then apply for permission directly at the Immigration Bureau.

    To apply, you will need the following documents.
    Application for Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted Application Form (You can download it from the Ministry of Justice website, or get a paper copy from the International Affairs Office.)

    Although the work hour limit during extended holidays is up to eight hours a day, students should not work so hard that it interferes with their studies or health.
    Students are not allowed to work in adult entertainment or related businesses (e.g., bars, “snack” pubs, nightclubs, pachinko parlors, mahjong halls, and video game arcades).
    In order to comfortably settle into life in Japan, the University recommends not working part time during the first three months of your arrival.
    Please be sure to always discuss your plans with and receive permission to work from your academic advisor.
    While working part-time, you must carry with you either your “Residence Card” or a copy of your “Permission to Engage in Activity Other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted”.
    雖然在延長假期期間可以工作八個小時,但是學生不應該太勞累,以免影響學習和健康。
    不允許在成人娛樂或相關地方工作(比如酒吧、快餐酒館、夜總會、柏青哥店麻將廳、錄像游戲廳)。

    6.Lost and Found
    If you lose something on campus, please contact the Student Support Division as well as the Academic Affairs Division. Similarly, if you find lost property on campus, please bring it to the Student Support Division or the Academic Affairs Division of the student’s department.
    If you lose or find something off campus, please notify the nearest police station (Koban).

    Okayama University offers international students a wide range of support and services to help them settle into life in Okayama. Students can receive advice for any concerns they may have about Okayama University and their life in Japan.

    Peer Tutor Supporter
    New students of Okayama University who have just arrived in Japan can receive assistance and advice from tutors regarding their studies, research and daily life. Each student is assigned a tutor by the university according to his/her respective field of study and based on the recommendation of the academic advisor.

    International Student Advisor
    The International Student Advisor’s Room provides advice for international students and their families. These advisors offer international students tips on living in Okayama and advice about studying at the University, as well as information on scholarships/tuition and lodging/accommodation, and procedures for entering and living in Japan..
    You can make an appointment to see an advisor at the Center for Global Partnerships and Education (CGPE).

    Harassment Counseling
    Students can receive counseling on campus for dealing with sexual, power, and/or academic harassment. If any such problem arises, please don’t keep it to yourself. The details of your counseling session(s) are kept strictly private.

    Cultural Exchange Events
    Okayama University international students are invited to join in the various international cultural exchange events held throughout the year at elementary and junior high schools, high schools, communities and institutions. Please feel free to take part in any of the events you are interested in.

    Free Admission to Museums
    Okayama University international students are automatically members of the following museums. You can enter the permanent exhibitions of these facilities free of charge simply by showing your student ID.

    Ohara Museum(Kurashiki)
    Ohara Magosaburo founded the Ohara Museum of Art in 1930. This private museum, featuring Western art, is the oldest in Japan. Okayama University students can enjoy unlimited free access to the Ohara Museum of Art including the Main Art Gallery, Annex, the Craft Art Gallery, the Asiatic Art Gallery and Kojima Torajiro Memorial Hall.

    Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art and Okayama Prefectural Museum
    The Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art is one of the many museums in Japan that are supported by a prefecture. The museum, which was designed by architects Okada & Associates, opened in 1988 and houses a collection of around two thousand works.

    Club Activities
    Okayama University offers a wide range cultural and athletic clubs and circles for international students to join in. These extracurricular activities provide an opportunity to become acquainted with Japanese students and help to make campus life more enriching and enjoyable. Further information about the University’s various clubs and circles is available at the Student Affairs Division in the Academic Affairs Department.

    The Okayama University Health Service Center
    The Okayama University Health Service Center provides a range of support and services for students so that they can stay healthy and concentrate on their studies. The following services are available for free for university students: medical consultations and examinations, administration of medication, treatment of injuries.
    The Center provides physical and mental health care services for students and staff of the university.
    Please feel free to drop by the Health Service Center when you are injured/hurt, feel ill, are worried about your health, would like to have a medical checkup (height, weight, body fat rate, blood pressure, bone density), or want some information on staying healthy in your daily life (diet and exercise, etc.). All private matters such as the details of any disease you have, your health records and medical information are kept strictly confidential.
    The Center can also provide referrals to clinics or hospitals as required.
    Service Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm
    Office hours (8:30 - 17:00 on weekdays)
    For treatment or consultations at night and during the holidays, please use the medical facilities near the university.
    You can also request to receive a health certificate after your medical examination free of charge, as required.
    Please note that the consultation times are subject to change, according to the circumstances.

    You do not need to have/bring a National Health Insurance Card when visiting the Health Center, and there are no medical fees for consultations, etc.

    Health Checkups
    An International Student Health Checkup is carried out for all international students in April and October each year. We recommend that all students take advantage of this opportunity, as health checkups for exchange students, Japanese studies students, and research students are available only twice a year.

    National Health Insurance
    All persons who have a College Student visa status for more than 3 months must enroll in National Health Insurance. Applications are accepted at the municipal office of the city (town, village) where you live. Insurance premiums vary according to your income. Please enquire at your local municipal office (in many cases, international students with a limited income in Japan can receive a reduction in the monthly premium after completing the necessary procedures.)
    National Health Insurance covers 70% of your medical costs. Individuals must pay the 30% balance to the treatment center. A National Health Insurance card must be presented at the reception of the medical treatment center you visit.
    Example: In the case of a medical fee costing 10,000 yen:
    10,000 yen × 0.7= 7,000 yen (National Health Insurance covers 70% of the medical fees)
    10,000 yen × 0.3= 3,000 yen (you pay 30% of the medical fees)
    國民醫(yī)療保險
    持有大學生簽證并且期限在三個月以上的所有學生必須注冊國民健康保險。申請人可以在所在城市(縣、村)的市政辦公室申請。保險費根據(jù)收入不同而不同。請咨詢當?shù)氐氖姓k公室。(很多情況下,在日本收入有限的國際學生在完成必要的程序之后,可以享受月保險減免。)

    Personal Accident Insurance for Students and Additional Indemnity Insurance
    Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research
    Indemnification will be paid when a student is injured during curricular activities, school events, university-affiliated extracurricular activities, and when commuting between school facilities.
    Additional Indemnity Insurance
    Indemnification will be paid when a student injures or causes injury to a third party during curricular activities, school events, university-affiliated volunteer activities, and when commuting between the university and volunteer activities.

    Plan A: Curricular activities, school events, and commuting to school (including the coverage of Plan B)
    Plan B: Internship, nursing care recognized as an extracurricular activity, teaching practice, child-care practice, volunteer activities, and when commuting to and from the sites of such activities recognized by the university as curricular activities, school events, or university-affiliated extracurricular activities.
    Plan C: (for medical students) Curricular activities, school events and commuting to school (including the coverage of Plan B)

    This is mutual aid for personal injury and illness.
    Personal Liability Insurance for Students
    This compensates a third party for injury or damage to a third party’s property caused by the policy holder.
