Financial benefits
Our scholarships provide the following financial support:
full tuition fees
living allowance (stipend) - NZ$480 per week. This is a contribution to basic living expenses
an establishment allowance - NZ$3000. This is a contribution to assist with set up costs in New Zealand - for example it can be used towards accommodation expenses, text books, study materials
medical and travel insurance
travel to and from your home country - this is for travel from your home country at the start of the scholarship, and for you to return to your home country at the end of your scholarship. Note that we offer our scholarships for the shortest amount of time needed for you to complete the academic programme.

assistance with research and thesis costs for many postgraduate research students

There are four types of scholarships for full-time tertiary level study in New Zealand:

In addition to this, there is one scholarship type for full-time tertiary level study at a Pacific Island University:

Two other scholarship types are also available for shorter term training:
Short Term Training Scholarships: are for short-term (up to one year) professional development or vocational training in New Zealand. These are currently available to citizens of selected Pacific Island and ASEAN countries.
English Language Training for Officials (ELTO): aims at increasing the English language capacity of government officials in Asia and Africa.

About
New Zealand Pacific Scholarships (NZPS) recognise the very close personal, cultural, and economic ties that New Zealand enjoys with Pacific countries. A particular focus of NZPS is to increase the number of young pacific people studying in New Zealand and to build a new generation of Pacific leadership with strong links to New Zealand.
NZPS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
NZPS are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate study in New Zealand.

New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships
About
New Zealand Regional Development Scholarships (NZRDS) are for Pacific Island candidates to gain knowledge and skills in specific subject areas that will assist in the development of their home country. Scholars undertake their study in the Pacific region, providing scholars with the option of studying closer to home in a Pacific environment and culture.
The NZRDS programme complements the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s scholarships for training in New Zealand by:
Enabling scholars to pursue programmes of study in fields where the option of studying in New Zealand is limited or not offered.
Contributing to broader objectives including development of regional institutions and building strong person-to-person relationships across the region.
NZRDS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. New Zealand Development Scholarships
About
New Zealand Development Scholarships (NZDS) give candidates from selected developing countries an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills through study in specific subject areas which will assist in the development of their home country.
NZDS are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development programme. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
NZDS are for postgraduate study in New Zealand and are available to candidates from specific African, Caribbean and Latin American countries, and from Bhutan, Jordan, Mongolia, Nepal and Timor-Leste.
NZDS are also available for undergraduate study to candidates from Timor Leste.

How to apply
The application process for a New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarship is different to other New Zealand Scholarships. Applicants must submit their applications to their country's 'Nominating Agency' first. The Nominating Agency then 'nominates' two applicants from the submitted applications to send to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Short Term Training Scholarships
About
Short Term Training Scholarships (STTS) are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s international aid and development programme. They are managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
STTS assist people in the work force to gain knowledge and skills that will help the development of their home country. They play an important and growing role in addressing the human resource and development needs of developing countries.
Through STTS, individuals from selected developing countries can undertake training of up to one year in duration in New Zealand. A wide range of short-term vocational and/or skills courses or work attachments are offered.
