The following is a list of all merit scholarship opportunities offered by Brandeis to undergraduate students. Consult your merit scholarship notification letter for the expiration policy that applies to your particular award.

Brandeis-Sponsored Merit Scholarships
These scholarships are awarded to the most academically outstanding students in our pool. The top admitted students will be offered a Dean, Trustee, Presidential, or Justice Brandeis Scholarship, awards ranging from $10,500 to $17,500 annually. These scholarships recognize the potential impact of a student’s contributions in the classroom here at Brandeis.
Students do not need to apply for merit funding. All applicants, regardless of application method, will be considered during the admissions review period. Recipients will be notified of their awards shortly after the admission decision release date. All merit offers are final, and will be determined based on a holistic evaluation of academic accomplishments.
Brandeis-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship
This scholarship is available to entering first-year students who have attained National Merit Finalist status and have designated Brandeis as their first choice through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
Recipients of this scholarship are chosen by the NMSC. The amount of this scholarship ranges from $500 to $2,000, based on financial need.

Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to entering first-year students on the basis of academic performance and extracurricular participation in secondary school, outstanding community involvement and demonstrated financial need.
There is no application for this scholarship beyond the admission application and the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE. (Please note that the FAFSA and parent and student taxes will also be required upon payment of the deposit.)
The amount of this scholarship is equal to the student's calculated institutional financial need, based on the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE, the FAFSA and student and parent tax returns, and is renewable for up to eight semesters of study at Brandeis.
Giumette Academic Achievement Award
The Giumette Academic Achievement Award (GAAA) was developed by the Office of Students and Enrollment, in conjunction with the Student Union and the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, as a way to recognize currently enrolled sophomores who have distinguished themselves in their course of study at Brandeis. Formerly known as the Brandeis Academic Achievement Award, the award was renamed in 2015 in honor of Peter Giumette, who served as the Dean of Student Financial Services for over 20 years and who had a deep commitment to increasing access to educational opportunities for first-generation and low-income students.
The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding scholarship and academic achievement as evidenced by grades, faculty recommendations, and personal accomplishment. A maximum of five awards in the amount of $5,000 per semester will be conferred for the junior and senior years. Recipients will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of students, faculty, and staff.

This scholarship is awarded to one outstanding entering first-year student from the Chicago area. This scholarship was created through a gift from the Fannie Penikoff Charitable Trust to the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.
There is no application for this scholarship beyond the admission application and the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.
The amount of this scholarship is equal to full tuition and is renewable for up to eight continuous semesters of study at Brandeis, beginning with the semester in which the recipient was initially offered admission.
Recipients of this scholarship will be required to provide information about their campus activities to the Office of Donor Relations at Brandeis at least once each year and will also be required to write a letter of thanks to Ms. Donna Kahan, who oversees the Fannie Penikoff Fund at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, that details the recipient’s campus involvement
Stroum Family Waltham Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to four top graduating seniors from Waltham High School in Massachusetts.
There is no application for this scholarship beyond the admission application and the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE.
The amount of this scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters of study at Brandeis.

Malkin Israeli Endowed Scholarship
The Malkin Israeli Endowed Scholarship is provided by the Malkin Israeli Scholar Endowment Fund. This award is a full scholarship awarded to one Jewish Israeli student every four years who will work to foster greater tolerance and under-standing in both Israel and the United States.
Candidates must be Israeli citizens and must present evidence of serious involvement in coexistence efforts. A maximum of two undergraduate students can be funded through this scholarship at any one time.
The scholarship will provide the resources for tuition, standard on-campus room and board and a round-trip air ticket each year between Israel and the United States; books and personal expenses remain the obligation of the student.
Dual U.S. and Israeli citizens are not considered for this award. An interview in Israel is preferred for this scholarship.

Sylvia and Joseph Slifka Israeli Coexistence Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to two Israeli citizens; one Arab and one Jewish. These students, along with the two recipients of the Malkin Israeli Endowed Scholarship, bring reality and personal commitment to the campus discussion of peaceful coexistence in Israel and in the world in general.
Applicants must be Israeli citizens who demonstrate strong academic achievement and English proficiency, and have been involved significantly in coexistence efforts.
The Common Application and additional international forms are required; no special form is required for an applicant to be considered for the Slifka Scholarship. An interview by invitation of the Selection Committee is required; these will be conducted in Israel. Dual U.S. and Israeli citizens are not considered for this award.

Wien International Scholarship
The Wien International Scholarship Program was established in 1958 to support international students at Brandeis. Today a small number of need-based full scholarships are awarded to outstanding students in a worldwide competition.
A package of scholarship, work and loan can cover the full cost of education at Brandeis. Wien Scholarship packages of scholarship, work and loan are also awarded to very strong candidates who have demonstrated need for only part of educational costs at Brandeis.
