BUTEX International Scholarship
As a BUTEX affiliated university we are able to offer you the opportunity to apply for the ￡500 BUTEX International Scholarship. The Scholarship is open to all International (non-EU) Study Abroad students who are not funded by an ERASMUS grant. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad place here. The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students who are affiliated to a BUTEX Full Member institution. You may be affiliated as an incoming or an outgoing study abroad student. To be eligible to apply:
you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place which is not eligible for an ERASMUS grant.
your study abroad or exchange placement must be for the UK academic year 2018 / 2019 (i.e. your studies should fall between July 2018 and August 2019.)
your place must be for a minimum of one semester.

Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year.
The value of each scholarship is ￡500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.
BUTEX will also make a special award in honour of our late Treasurer, the Tony Emmerson Award. This scholarship will be awarded in the event of an American Studies student being successful in the competition. This award will also be for ￡500.
Applications for students studying abroad during academic year 2017/18 are now being accepted and the deadline for all applications will be the 15th June 2017.

Chevening Scholarships
The UK Government's global scholarship programme is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The Scholarships offer nationals from a variety of countries highly coveted opportunities to study for a Master's degree at a UK university. Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship is open to nationals of developing Commonwealth countries who are classed as ‘overseas’ for fee paying purposes, hold exceptional qualifications and are otherwise unable to afford to study in the UK. Scholarship applicants must hold a current offer for an eligible LSBU full-time taught postgraduate course. Please note, paper applications to LSBU will not be processed. Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are a joint initiative between the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (with funding from DFID) and UK universities, to support scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK.

Hardship FundInternational
Students can apply to LSBU's Hardship Fund.Ways to additional funding while you study at London South Bank University
Students need to consider a number of funding opportunities when they come to university. As well as finding out if you're eligible for funding through tuition fee loans and scholarships as an undergraduate or potential funding as a postgraduate there are additional sources of funding students may be eligible to claim.
Students already holding an ELQ
Students studying for a second qualification at the same or a lower level than a qualification they already hold are referred to as Equal or Lower Qualification (ELQ) students. New ELQ students pay the standard home fee.If you already hold an undergraduate qualification (or equivalent) you won't be eligible for support via Student Finance England for a second qualification at the same level. This applies to both full and part-time undergraduate study. Some exceptions to this are detailed on Gov.uk website.
Students with children
If you have children then you may be eligible for extra help from two main sources: your Local Authority and HM Revenue and Customs.
Childcare Grant
The Childcare Grant is available to full-time students in low-income households. To qualify, you must have a dependent child or children in registered or approved childcare. On qualifying you can receive up to 85% of your actual childcare costs which isn't repaid. How much you get depends on:
your level of income and household income
how many children you have in childcare
your actual childcare costs

Parents' Learning Allowance (PLA)
The Parents' Learning Allowance is available to full-time students receiving the Childcare Grant. It's also available to other full-time students from low-income backgrounds with children.The allowance helps you pay course-related costs such as books, materials and travel. You do not repay this help. The Directgov website has further information about the PLA.
Tax Credits
Students with dependant children may also be entitled to claim Child Tax Credit from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). The amount you receive depends on your circumstances and income.ou may also be able to claim Working Tax Credit. However, if you get the childcare element of Working Tax Credit, you won't be able to claim the Childcare Grant as well.The Gov.uk website has further information about Tax Credits.
Students with adult dependants
If you are a full-time student with an adult who depends on you financially, you could be entitled to the Adult Dependants' Grant that you don't have to repay.An adult dependant can include a partner (of either sex) or another adult, usually a member of your family who depends on you financially. However, you can't count your grown-up children as adult dependants.How much you get depends on your income and the income of your adult dependants.The Gov.uk website has further information about the Adult Dependants' Grant.
Students with disabilities
Detailed information about support for disabled students can be found on the UK Government website Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs).
Students studying on a vocational course
Professional and Career Development Loans are a government scheme, operated in conjunction with three High Street banks (Co-operative, Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland). They can assist with up to 80% of the cost of tuition fees and an amount for living costs, or 100% if you have been out of work for three months or more before applying.
A Professional and Career Development Loan is a bank loan designed to help you pay for work-related learning. You don't have to start paying your loan back until at least one month after you stop training. The Gov.uk website has further information about Professional and Career Development Loans.
To have this funding in place at the start of your course you need to apply 8 to 10 weeks in advance. LSBU will need to certify your application so contact the Student Life Centre. If you have already had your loan agreed in advance you will need to bring to enrolment confirmation of when the first payment will be released to the University, plus details of the full amount of loan that has been agreed. Any amount not covered by your loan will need to be paid at your face-to-face enrolment session.
If you are in the process of applying for a Professional and Career Development Loan, LSBU will certify your application. While you are awaiting a decision on your loan to commence your studies you will need to pay at least 50% of your year's tuition fee.
Students from the Armed Forces
LSBU is an approved learning provider for the Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELCAS).
Claiming benefits
The rules concerning students and benefits are complicated and depend on individual circumstances. There are also different rules for claiming benefits during term time and vacation periods. We therefore advise that all students receiving benefits, or who believe they may be eligible for certain benefits or tax credits, seek advice from their local Benefits Office, Citizen's Advice Bureau, or a Student Services' adviser.
Help with cost of Dyslexia assessment
Support is available for all LSBU students with dyslexia, to enable them to cope with their practical, academic and personal needs. If you think you would benefit from being assessed, please contact Disability and Dyslexia Support on 020 7815 6454 or email disability@lsbu.ac.uk. Financial support for assessment will only be considered if the referral is made by the University's Dyslexia Coordinators.

International Scholarships
This year LSBU is offering scholarships and discounts to hundreds of students via our International Scholarships.
We are delighted to announce a new programme of International Scholarships
LSBU values the academic and cultural diversity that international students bring to the University and is offering scholarships of ￡1,000 to overseas fee-paying nationals undertaking undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD studies.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the International Scholarship, students must hold a valid offer of a place at LSBU for a full-time degree programme commencing in September 2017 or January 2018. They must be self-funding and not in receipt of any other official sponsorship. The programme of study must be at least one year in duration. For undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes the tuition fee charged must be ￡7,500 or more. The award will be issued as a reduction in tuition fees on registration.
For postgraduate research programmes, the discount applies to the fees charged for the first academic year's enrolment in 2017/18 only.
Students in receipt of the International Scholarship will also be eligible to claim the 5% Early Settlement Discount if the tuition fees are paid in full by the early payment deadline.
Students in receipt of the International Scholarship may also be eligible for the LSBU Graduate Loyalty Scheme if they have previously graduated from an LSBU degree course. This scholarship can be combined with the 10% Graduate Loyalty Scheme, but not with the 25% Graduate Loyalty Scheme.

Undergraduate and PostgraduateThe Division of Law is offering scholarships for September 2017 entry. are for overseas fee paying students who have studied all or part of the London International Programme LLB.LSBU values the academic contribution that international students bring to the University. Through the International Merit Scholarship, LSBU aims to recognise and reward exceptional talent enabling academically strong candidates to take their studies to the next level with us.The International Merit Scholarship offers students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes with outstanding academic profiles a fee reduction of up to ￡4,000 on the first year’s tuition fees for those who meet the criteria.
Eligibility
To be eligible for an International Merit Scholarship, you must:
Hold a valid unconditional and current offer of a place for a full-time taught undergraduate degree or postgraduate taught degree programme beginning in September 2017 or January 2018.
Be classified as an Overseas Student for fee paying purposes. The programme must be a minimum of one year in duration and taught on campus at LSBU.Have achieved the Scholarship's academic pre-requisites in the qualification being considered for entry, according to the Appendix in the Terms and Conditions (PDF File 80 KB).
All decisions are made by the scholarship panel and are final.
Additional information
The International Merit Scholarship is only available to new applicants for an LSBU undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree programme having met the above criteria. Current students will not be eligible. Students who do not meet the academic criteria for this scholarship will be eligible for a ￡1,000 International Scholarship.
The International Merit Scholarship will only be available for the first year of the course. For subsequent years of the programme (excluding the work placement year for students taking the sandwich degree option and the short second year for students studying a top-up degree programme), the ￡1,000 International Scholarship will be available.
