We want to know what your artistic interests are and how you represent them in your practice. Your work can be in any medium, and we encourage applicants to submit a variety of types of work. In order for your portfolio to be seriously considered by the faculty reviewing your work, it is important to follow the following guidelines. Please read through the requirements carefully, and direct any questions to your Admissions Counselor.our portfolio must be submitted through SlideRoom, an online portfolio website, and should include approximately 20 images representative of your most recent or current work. You do not need to submit 20 distinct works or projects, but please make sure that each image you submit shows us different content. Sketches and works-in-progress are welcome.
We are looking for personal work that gives us a sense of who you are as an artist, rather than academic work. Please do not include generic class assignments (i.e. technical exercises, figure/life drawing, still life drawings).CalArts does not offer a program in Illustration. The School of Art offers both undergraduate (BFA) and graduate (MFA) programs in Art, Graphic Design, and Photography and Media and a graduate-degree program in Art & Technology (MFA only). Submit a portfolio of your current work with a minimum of 20 pieces. Please include examples of the following: graphic design, typography, illustration, motion graphics, web design, photography, and conceptual drawing (examples of conceptual thinking). You may also include drawing, painting, sketchbook pages and collage. Your portfolio should consist of: class assignments, self-initiated projects, and/or professional work. Please select work that shows your proficiency with both digital software and traditional art making materials.
The following project is optional but highly recommended for applicants who lack examples of graphic design in their portfolio.

MFA Portfolio Requirements
Submit a portfolio of your current design work with a minimum of 20 pieces. Your artist statement should concisely address your objectives and goals as a designer in the context of current issues in design practice, as well as how these goals serve as a basis for graduate-level study.
Online Portfolio Submissions
Please use SlideRoom to upload your portfolio with digital files. The system allows you to create a corresponding inventory of works, listing for each image the following information: title, date, medium, dimensions and notes. You may upload still images or video works.
Once your portfolio is uploaded, it can be viewed and rearranged until the final submission is made. No changes can be made following the final submission of your portfolio. Please be advised that CalArts is not able to view your work until the final submission is made and your payment is received. Be sure to submit your portfolio to the correct degree level and program. Submit approximately 20 examples of your current work. The submitted work needs to be representative of a graduate level student and an informed creative practice. No class projects will be considered.The works do not need to be solely technology based; we are interested in a wide variety of intermedia and experimental art practices that can be supported and/or enhanced by the program’s curriculum. We recommend that you emphasize two or three bodies of work. Portfolios may represent more than one media type (digital video, photography, sound, text files, web sites). Moving image/sound work that is longer than 15 minutes, should be edited to 3 to 5 minute excerpts that best represent the work. Longer versions can be included in the portfolio as well.

The artist statement for the Art and Technology program must explain in detail the critical basis of your work in regards to the use of technology within a creative and cultural practice. The statement needs to outline the creative goals you would like to achieve while in the program, along with your interest in exploring art and technology within an interdisciplinary context. When applying online, this statement should be submitted with both your online application and your online portfolio.

5.推薦信Letters of Recommendation
Art and Technology applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation. We recommend that you submit the requests for your letters of recommendation through the online application, as it will allow you to track when the letters are submitted. However, if this is not possible, you may also download the Letter of Recommendation Form (pdf) and have your recommender send their letter by mail. Please choose only one method—either online or by mail—per recommender.

6.網(wǎng)上作品集提交Online Portfolio Submissions
Please use SlideRoom, our online portfolio system, to upload your portfolio with digital files. The system allows you to create a corresponding inventory of works, listing for each image the following information: title, date, medium, dimensions and notes. You may upload still images or video works.
Once your portfolio is uploaded, it can be viewed and rearranged until the final submission is made. No changes can be made following the final submission of your portfolio. Please be advised that CalArts is not able to view your work until the final submission is made and your payment is received. Be sure to submit your portfolio to the correct degree level and program. If you experience technical difficulties while uploading your portfolio, send an email to support@slideroom.com for assistance.
