中國的教育體系是一個由教育部(Ministry of Education)管理的國有公共教育系統(tǒng)。所有公民都必須接受9年義務(wù)教育。政府提供六七歲開始的小學(xué)教育(primary education),持續(xù)6年,緊隨其后的是為12歲至18歲的孩子準(zhǔn)備的六年中學(xué)教育。一些省份可能有五年制的小學(xué),但中學(xué)則為六年,一般初中為三年,高中為三年。教育部公布的小學(xué)入學(xué)率為99%,初、高中入學(xué)率均為80%。
