Drolma, a Tibetan woman in Ganzi, Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China's Sichuan Province, was reported to have released 6,387 goats to a prairie in Sertar County after she saved them from slaughter houses with 5.1 million yuan of donated money, organized by a group called "Snowland Release Group".

There have been a number of reports recently in China in which captive animals were released randomly into the wild by animal activists or by those following a Buddhist ritual known as "fangsheng" or "release life" which demonstrates spiritual compassion and piety by releasing captive animals back into nature.
近來國內(nèi)曝出多起關(guān)于動(dòng)物保護(hù)愛好者或佛教徒盲目放生的事件，在佛教中，“放生”這種行為通過讓被捕動(dòng)物回歸自然來展示憐憫和虔誠之心。
放生的英文表達(dá)是release life，盲目放生的英文表達(dá)則是random releasing of captive animals to the wild。卓瑪放生事件在微博上得到了網(wǎng)民的極大關(guān)注，有些網(wǎng)友認(rèn)為卓瑪是做善事，也有些網(wǎng)友擔(dān)心草原里突然增加這么多羊，會(huì)危害草原的生態(tài)系統(tǒng) (endanger the prairie's ecosystem)。
新修訂的《野生動(dòng)物保護(hù)法》規(guī)定，任何組織和個(gè)人將野生動(dòng)物放生至野外環(huán)境，應(yīng)當(dāng)選擇適合放生地野外生存的當(dāng)?shù)匚锓N(indigenous species)，不得干擾當(dāng)?shù)鼐用竦恼Ｉ?、生產(chǎn)，避免對(duì)生態(tài)系統(tǒng)造成危害。隨意放生野生動(dòng)物(frees captive animals in a reckless manner)，造成他人人身、財(cái)產(chǎn)損害或者危害生態(tài)系統(tǒng)(causes property damage or physical injury to others, or jeopardizes the ecosystem)的，依法承擔(dān)法律責(zé)任(be held accountable)。
