征兵 conscription
Ministry of Education said Wednesday that graduates who had signed up in June for military service should report to recruiting stations across the country early next month when annual conscription work begins.
教育部于本周三稱，下月初年度征兵工作開(kāi)始后，在今年六月報(bào)名參加預(yù)征入伍的高校畢業(yè)生應(yīng)前往各地的征兵站報(bào)名應(yīng)征。
文中的conscription 就是指“征兵”，美國(guó)人常用“the draft”來(lái)表示。被征兵的人則被稱作conscripts。
據(jù)預(yù)計(jì)，今年將有13萬(wàn)名高校畢業(yè)生join the army(入伍)，服military service(兵役)，成為serviceman/servicewoman(現(xiàn)役軍人)。這些畢業(yè)生將享受compensation to college tuition fees(補(bǔ)償學(xué)費(fèi)) or student loans(代償助學(xué)貸款)等優(yōu)惠政策。
為強(qiáng)化軍隊(duì)的high-tech edge(高科技優(yōu)勢(shì))，我國(guó)首先在2001年開(kāi)展了高校畢業(yè)生入伍的pilot scheme(試點(diǎn)計(jì)劃)，age limit(年齡限制)可適當(dāng)放寬。在two-year compulsory service(兩年義務(wù)兵役)結(jié)束后，他們還將被優(yōu)先推薦去police and other law-enforcement departments(公安及其他執(zhí)法部門)工作。Conscription work嚴(yán)格按照conscription law(兵役法)進(jìn)行，目前的大學(xué)生多數(shù)只參加為期一個(gè)月內(nèi)的military training(軍訓(xùn))。
