Erhai Lake
Erhai Lake, a freshwater lake in Yunnan Province, is a plateau lake as well as a kind of rift lake formed by the collapse of West Erhe River. Erhai Lake is named for its shape resembling an ear and its waves that are as rough as those at sea. The lake is the seventh largest freshwater lake in China and the "mother lake" for the Bai ethnic group. Erhai Lake has seven main functions: water supply, farmland irrigation, electric power generation, climate regulation, fishing, navigation and tourism. It is a scenic area of distinctive landscapes with fine water quality and rich aquatic resources.
