The Swire (Mainland China) Management Trainee Programme
The global vision of Swire is founded on a long and distinguished history, dating back to the early 19th century. Over time, Swire has accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise in eight core industry sectors around the world: Property, Aviation, Beverages, Marine Services, Cold Storage, Trading and Industrial, Agriculture, and Road Transport.
Since the 1960s, our Management Trainee Programme has attracted new graduates of the highest calibre from the best of Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas tertiary institutions, instilling in them the Swire traditions of operational excellence and innovation. Indeed, many of the executives who today are directors and senior managers of companies within the Swire group began their careers with us as Management Trainees.
Now, commencing in 2008, we are proud to introduce a unified, remodelled group-wide Management Trainee programme, with a centralised recruitment process that will select the best new graduate candidates for our various business streams.

Training & Objectives:
Successful applicants to the Swire (Mainland China) Management Trainee Programme will be employed by John Swire & Sons (China) Limited and seconded to one of our group companies* for a period of three years primarily in Hong Kong or Mainland China, with a view to developing their professionalism for a long-term career within that field.
During the three years of the Programme, Trainees will receive ongoing on-the-job training and comprehensive training in leadership, management skills, and assists them to attain industry-specific qualifications. The Programme also features a feedback and appraisal system, along with a mentoring scheme, which together provide a solid basis for long-term development.
Upon successful completion of the three-year Programme, trainees will continue their long-term career development in Mainland China within the same Swire group company where they commenced their training. Swire expects its junior executives to be capable of taking on multifunctional roles and assignments involving a variety of different disciplines and locations, and to have the ability to confidently lead their teams and business units. It is also a Swire tradition to expand our managers’ horizons and encourage them to develop a group-wide perspective by appointing them to roles in different industries at some point in their career. Learning and change are the hallmarks of a successful career with Swire.
* Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd., Cathay Pacific Catering Services (H.K.) Ltd., Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd., Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd., Swire Beverages Ltd., Swire Properties Ltd and other Swire group companies Management Trainees are all recruited and managed by this centralised Programme commencing 2008.
Requirements :
- Hold a recognized university degree in any discipline
- Possess excellent command of written and spoken Chinese and English, with either a CET 6 or TEM 4 or equivalent English standard
- NOT have worked in a full time capacity for more than three years
- Willing to be relocated to HKSAR, other PRC cities and other countries for long or short term assignments
