1.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Unity breeds success by commenting on Albert Einstein’s famous remark, “A snowflake is one of God’s most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together! ” You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
    Unity breeds success
I assume that you are familiar with the words of Einstein, who once said, “A snowflake is one of God’s most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together! ” Definitely, A snowflake is easy to melt when it lands on the soil. However, when falling on the ground together, they can create a snow-wrapped world with splendid scene. It is obvious that unity transforms snowflake’s vulnerability into strength.
Simple as Einstein’s remark may sound, it contains abundant life philosophy and informs us of the significance of unity. why does unity play an indispensable role in our life ? Unity enables us to achieve our objectives more smoothly and realize our dreams more rapidly. In such a competitive world of today, it is not personal strength that the achievement of any course depends on; it condenses the energies of a group. To further demonstrate the importance of unity, I would like to take Chinese Communist Party as a case in point, how could she achieve the victory of Anti-Japanese War if she failed to unite Chinese people of all ethnic groups?
From my perspective, at no time should we ignore the importance of unity. Accordingly,we should foster the consciousness of unity and always bear in mind that unity can create miracles no matter what obstacles we meet. “Many hands make light work.” John Heywood also once said. (234words )
    2. Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled It Pays to Planby commenting on the humorous saying,“It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.” You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
    It Pays to Plan
“It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.” I assume that you are familiar with the humorous and commonly-heard saying. It’s still sunny and peaceful when Noah commences building the ark. It is obvious that Noah is planning for the unexpected weather.
Simple and humorous as the saying may sound, it contains abundant life philosophy and informs us of the significance of plan. why does plan play an indispensable role in our life ? Making plan will enable us to achieve our objectives more smoothly and realize their dreams more rapidly. The more detailed plan we make , the more likely we are to make full use of time, enhance our work efficiency make full preparation in advance for unexpected cases. To further demonstrate the importance of unity, I would like to take CEO as a case in point, how could a CEO, the head and decision-maker of a corporation , deal with all sorts of complicated things smoothly if he fails to draw up a detailed plan for routine work ?
From my perspective, at no time should we ignore the importance of making plans. Accordingly,we should draw up detailed plans before we start to do anything and do things as planned . ““He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” A famous philosopher also once said.

一位的哲學(xué)家也曾經(jīng)說過“一個(gè)人如果沒有成功地制定計(jì)劃,他就是在計(jì)劃著失敗?!?BR>    3.Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled It Pays to be Modest by commenting on Joseph Addison’s famous remark “Modestyis not only an ornament, but also a guard to virtue.” You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
    It Pays to be Modest
“Modestyis not only an ornament, but also a guard to virtue.”Joseph Addison once said. Modesty can not only make someone look beautiful and well-mannered, but also serve as a guarantee to one’s excellent character. It is obvious that people tend to lose their fine qualities if they are not modest.
Simple as Addison’s remark may sound, it contains abundant life philosophy and informs us of the significance of modesty. why does modesty play an indispensable role in our life ? Modesty can inspire people to achieve greater success. Those who are modest will never be content with their current achievements, instead, they will work constantly to achieve a higher target. Quite a few examples can be given to prove the importance of modesty, however, I can think of no better illustration than the following one: how could Benjamin Franklin, who was once a printer of humble origins, attain tremendous achievements in so many fields such as science, politics, literature and navigation if he was simply content with small achievements?
We should always bear in mind that modesty will prompt us to go farther. Accordingly, at no time should we be satisfied with our small accomplishments, instead , we need to keep an open mind to accept new things, absorb new information, acquire new knowledge and seize new opportunities. “Success consists in industry and modesty.” A philosopher once said.

    Actions Speak Louder Than Words
“A man, like a watch, is to be valued by this manner of going .” I assume that you are familiar with William Penn’s remark. The watch is crucial for every individual, because it tells the time by moving constantly. It is obvious that a man is of little value if he fail to act like a watch.
William Penn’s remark aims at informing us of the significance of taking actions. We can not emphasize the importance of actions too much. Action will enable us to achieve our objectives more smoothly and realize their dreams more rapidly. The more action we take, the more likely we are to accumulate experience, master skills and get close to our destination. To further demonstrate the importance of A, I would like to take a famous Chinese fable story as a case in point. How could the “foolish old man” who dreamed of removing the mountain in front of his gate finally achieve his dream without taking constant actions ?
From my perspective , at no time should we ignore the value of actions. Accordingly, not only should us posses a great dream, but we also should take actions to make it come true. “actions speak louder than words.” A philosopher also once said. (205 words)
5.Directions:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled The Importance of Innovationby commenting on Rosabeth Moss Kanter’s famous remark ““Mindless habitual behavior is the enemy ofinnovation.”You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.
    The Importance of Innovation
“Mindless habitual behavior is the enemy ofinnovation.” I assume that you are familiar with Rosabeth Moss Kanter’s famous remark. It is obvious that a man who always stick to habit and experience can hardly create new things.
Rosabeth Moss Kanter’s remark aims at informing us of the significance of innovation. Why does innovation play an indispensable role in our life ? innovation can promote the advancement of both individuals and society as a whole. only those who are innovative can make continuous progress and maintain a competitive edge. Quite a few examples can be given to prove the importance of A, and I can think of no better illustration than the following one: how could Steve Jobs, a genius who changed the way of modern communication, recreation and even our life, launch so many powerful electronic products constantly without creative spirit?
We should always bear in mind that the consciousness of innovation is of great significance to us all. Hence, we need to develop a habit of discovering new things, using new methods and applying new thoughts in our work, study or simply everyday life.“Innovation is the spirit of human being’s progress.” A philosopher once said. (202 words)

Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others , however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Over the last half century the pace of change in the life of human beings has increased beyond our wildest expectations. This has been driven by technological and scientific breakthroughs that are changing the whole way we view the world on an almost daily basis. This means that change is not always a personal option, but an inescapable fact of life, and we need to constantly adapt to keep pace with it.
Those people who believe they have achieved some security by doing the same, familiar things are living in denial. Even when people believe they are resisting change themselves, they cannot stop the world around them from changing. Sooner or later they will find that the familiar jobs no longer exist, or that the ‘safe’ patterns of behavior are not longer appropriate.
However, reaching the conclusion that change is inevitable is not the same as assuming that ‘change is always for the better.’ Unfortunately, it is not always the case that new things are promoted because they have good impacts for the majority of people. A lot of innovations are made with the aim of making money for a few. This is because it is the rich and powerful people in our society who are able to impose changes(such as in working conditions or property developments ) that are in their own interests.
In conclusion, I would say that change can be stimulating and energizing for individuals when they pursue it themselves, but that all change, including that which is imposed on people, does not necessarily have good outcomes.
Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on young children. Do you agree or disagree?
I tend to agree that young children can be negatively affected by too mcuh time spent on the computer every day. This is partly because sitting in front of a screen for too long can be damaging to both the eyes and the physical posture of a young child, regardless of what they are using the computer for.
However, the main concern is about the type of computer activities that attract children. These are often electronic games that tend to be very intense and rather violent. The player is usually the‘hero’ of the game and too much exposure can encourage children to be self-centered and insensitive to others.
Even when children use a computer for other purposes, such as getting information or emailing friends, it is no substitute for human interaction. Spending time with other children and sharing non-virtual experiences is and important part of a child’s development that cannot be provided by a computer.
In spite of this, the obvious benefits of computer skills for young children cannot be denied. Their adult world will be changing constantly in terms of technology and the Internet is the key to all the knowledge and information available in the world today. Therefore it is important that children learn at an early age to use the equipment enthusiastically and with confidence as they will need these skills throughout their studies and working lives.
I think the main point is to make sure that young children do not overuse computers. Parents must ensure that their children learn to enjoy other kinds of activity and not simply sit at home, learning to live in a virtual world.
Some people believe that children should be allowed to stay at home and play until they are six or seven years old. Others believe that it is important for young children to go to school as soon as possible. What do you think are the advantages of attending school from a young age?
In many places today, children start primary school at around the age of six or seven. However, because it is more likely now that both parents work, there is little opportunity for children to stay in their own home up to that age. Instead, they will probably go to a nursery school when they are much younger.
While some people think this may be damaging to a child’s development, or to a child’s relationship with his or her parents, in fact there are many advantages to having school experience at a young age.
Firstly, a child will learn to interact with a lot of different people and some children learn to communicate very early because of this. They are generally more confident and independent than children who stay at home with their parents and who are not used to strangers or new situations. Such children find their first day at school at the age of six very frightening and this may have a negative effect on how they learn.
Another advantage of going to school at an early age is that children develop faster socially. They make friends and learn how to get on with other children of a similar age. This is often not possible at home because they are the only child, or because their brothers or sisters are older or younger.
So overall, I believe that , attending school from a young age is good for most children. They still spend plenty of time at home with their parents, so they can benefit from both environments.
In many countries schools have severe problems with student behaviour.
What do you think are the causes of this?
     what solutions can you suggest?
Poor student behavior seems to be an increasingly widespread problem and I think that modern lifestyles are probably responsible for this.
In many countries, the birth rate is decreasing so that families are smaller with fewer children. These children are often spoilt, not in terms of love and attention because working parents do not have the time for this, but in more material ways. They are allowed to have whatever they want, regardless of price, and to behave as they please. This means that the children grow up without consideration for others and without any understanding of where their standard of living comes from.
When they got to school age they have not learnt any self control or discipline. They have less respect for their teachers and refuse to obey school rules in the way that their parents did.
Teachers continually complain about this problem and measures should be taken to combat the situation. But I think the solution to the problem lies with the families, who need to be more aware of the future consequences of spoiling their children. If they could raise them to be considerate of others and to be social, responsible individuals, the whole community would benefit.
Perhaps parenting classes are needed to help them to do this, and high quality nursery schools could be established that would support families more in terms of raising the next generation. The government should fund this kind of parental support, because this is no longer a problem for individual families, but for society as a whole.
