In accordance with your instructions on July 16, I started to study the feasibility of rehabilitating Foggy Valley and am now submitting my monthly progress report.
This report details the work completed and the work remaining, and concludes with an overall appraisal of the progress made.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Purpose.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of rehabilitating the Foggy Valley and restoring it as a recreational resource.
LOCATION, DEPTH AND CONTENT
Work Completed.
Adequate data on location and depth of the valley already exists in a report by Andy Wang.
Work Remaining.
In order to determine the content of the valley I will take samples from three locations in the valley. These samples will be sent to the soils laboratory at Earth Institute.
TIME, COST, COMMUNITY BENEFITS AND PROBLEMS
Work Completed.
Mr. Wang had provided a list of city managers in the state whose cities have completed rehabilitation projects similar to ours. They should be helpful concerning time and costs.
Work Remaining.
This week I'll ask them questions concerning time, cost, problems and benefits. I'll design questionnaires to be administered to a random selection of city residents to ascertain what they see as benefits, problems, and solutions.
OVERALL APPRAISAL
Good progress has been made. Data available on location and depth. I will shortly begin work to determine the content of the soils. Expected letters from major dredging contractors and dredge manufacturers should provide information on equipment, method, time, and costs. Planned correspondence with city managers should provide a basis for judging benefits and problems.
I will call you next week concerning the possibility of prompt action on our part. With such a possibility, we may want to move our timetable forward.親愛的史密斯先生，
