stair，stairs
這兩個詞僅差一字之微，但涵義并不相同。
Stairs是一道樓梯；stair是“樓梯或階梯的一級”，此字是英國英語British English；在美國和蘇格蘭，指樓梯或扶梯一級時，用step，不用stair。例：
Mrs．So stood on the top stair/step．
蘇太太站在樓梯的一級。
She is walking down the stairs．
她正走下樓梯／樓梯的梯級。
表達(dá)“五級樓梯”、“十級樓梯”等意時，人們一般說five steps和ten steps，以免與stairs（整個樓梯）混淆一起，故不說five stairs或ten stairs。順帶一提，梯子（ladder）的踏級稱為rung。

There is a spiral stair（a flight of spiral stairs/a spiral staircase）between the ground，flool and the first floor．
這里的stair和stairs又作何解釋呢？考試大從邏輯作出推理，這里的stair和a flight of stairs均作“整個樓梯”解，故可譯為：“在一樓和二樓之間有一道螺旋形的樓梯”。
A flight of stairs和a pair of stairs同義并通用，但后者不及前者用得普遍。常用的還有a flight of steps。
