這兩個(gè)詞都有“起來”、“上升”之意，但用法有所不同。
Rise的使用范圍較廣，作為莊嚴(yán)的用語時(shí)，大都用作比喻的意味，常見于詩(shī)歌和古語，現(xiàn)代英語已很少使用（如 to rise in the world、to rise to greatness、to rise in life）。在現(xiàn)代英語中，rise大都用以指太陽、月亮、水蒸汽、云彩、產(chǎn)量、生活水平等等的上升或人的起立和起床。例：
He rises/rises up early.（正式用語）
他很早起床。
The tribe rose to power and became a nation state.
那部族崛起，成為城邦。
Our living standards are rising steadily.
我們的生活水平正在不斷地提高。
The wind is rising.
起風(fēng)了。
The tide is rising.
漲潮了。
Mt．Everest rises to the height of 29,009 feet．

Rise除用作不及物動(dòng)詞外，還可用作名詞，如：
The rise of the tide is fifty feet.

Arise除了表示“起來”、“上升”之意外，還可以作“發(fā)生”、“出現(xiàn)”解。常與之搭配使用詞的有difficulty、 doubt、question、occasion、 result、 effects、 thoughts、accident、argument、revolt、illness、storm等。例：
She arises at six every day. （正式用語）
