possible，probable
這兩個詞都是形容詞，都有“可能”之意，但詞義有細(xì)微的差異。
一般說來，possible表示“有可能”的意味；probable則表示“可能發(fā)生”的意味。因此，前者可譯作“可能的”、“可為的”；后者則譯作“大概的”、“或然的”。

當(dāng)possible與另一形容詞同時修飾一個名詞時，它經(jīng)常放在該名詞之后。例如to try in every way possible （見第一個例句） in the shortest time possible，by all means possible．
下面是probable的例子：
It is probable that it will rain this afternoon．
今日下午大約會下雨。
I think it probable．
我想或許會的。
It is probable that Mr．Liang will not come．
梁先生大概不會來了。
注意： It is probable之后只能接 that 引導(dǎo)的從句，不能接動詞不定式。例如：
It is probable to happen．（錯）
It is probable that it will happen．（對）
此事大概會發(fā)生。
為了加強語氣，可以在probable之前加個most，如：
It is most probable that it will happen ；這時候，most probable 等于 very likely（很有可能）之意。
現(xiàn)將possible和probable用于一句，以便區(qū)別：
Such accidents are not only possible but also probable.
這類意外不但可能，而目還會發(fā)生。
從此句可看出，possible的詞義比probable弱。
