In the photo is someone most of us are familiar with, Liu Xiang, the young Chinese Olympic gold medal winner in hurdling. The photo captures a key moment when he was striving to cross one hurdle, concentrating all his attention and strength. His success strongly retorts the rumor that Chinese are genetically weak in the track and fields.
Not only has Liu Xiang won national pride for the Chinese people, his deeds also instill us with a belief that, whenever equipped with sufficient willingness and efforts, we can always fulfill the Olympic motto of being faster, higher and stronger. That is to say, such a spirit can be adopted in everybody’s life and work, spurring people to overcome any difficulty and conquer any challenge. Moreover, if the Olympic motto is thoroughly promoted along with China’s opportunity to hold the 2008 Olympic Games, it can be a tremendous momentum pushing the country’s development.
A good example that echoes this spirit is Zhang Haidi, the famous Chinese disabled writer. In spite of her physical disadvantages, she has managed to study eight languages by herself, and has yielded numerous works and translations.
