Helen: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary.
Oliver: 地道英語(yǔ)和大家一起學(xué)習(xí)現(xiàn)代英式英語(yǔ)中經(jīng)常出現(xiàn)的流行詞匯和實(shí)用表達(dá)。那Helen, 今天給我們帶來(lái)的新詞是什么呢？
Helen: Today we are going to talk about being a teacher’s pet.
Oliver: 這個(gè)短語(yǔ)和學(xué)校生活有些關(guān)系。
Helen: Yes, it’s an expression we often hear in schools, especially among students.
Oliver: 那么請(qǐng)告訴我們 a teacher’s pet 究竟是什么意思呢？
Helen: The definition of a teacher’s pet usually refers to a student who is popular with the teachers, and probably not popular with fellow students.
Oliver: 老師就是 teacher, a pet 就是寵物, 放在一起，這個(gè)短語(yǔ)就是說(shuō)那些老師很喜歡或者說(shuō)經(jīng)常能得到老師特別照顧的學(xué)生。
Helen: And it’s not a particularly nice phrase to say to someone. It has a negative meaning.
Oliver: 對(duì)，這是個(gè)貶義的短語(yǔ)，千萬(wàn)不要用在表?yè)P(yáng)那些學(xué)習(xí)好的人啊。小心會(huì)惹火上身哦。

Helen: I just ignored their comments. I think my classmates were just jealous of my results.
