A library is a building for a collection (收集，收藏品) of books, magazines, periodicals and newspapers. The books are kept on the shelves in the stack (堆，干草垛) room whereas (鑒于，然而，但是，盡管) the magazines, journals, etc. in the reading room. Modern libraries also have Xerox (靜電復(fù)印) rooms and audio (音頻，聽覺)-visual rooms. If you want to borrow books, you can go to the loan (貸款，借出) desk, look over the correct numbers in the card catalog (目錄，編目錄) and ask the librarian to take them out for you.
