SINGAPORE （Reuters） - Singapore said on Tuesday tests had shown a 27-year-old medical researcher had SARS in what could be the world's first case since a global outbreak was declared over in May.
新加坡本周二證實(shí)一位27歲醫(yī)學(xué)研究員為非典患者，這可能是今年5月份全球非典流行病爆發(fā)以來首例新病例。

But the U.N.'s World Health Organization said the case did not fit the WHO definition of the disease under its new guidelines and would not pose a public health emergency. Singapore will send the samples of the man's tissue to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further tests.
但是世界衛(wèi)生組織表示這位患者并不符合世界衛(wèi)生組織對非典的新定義，也不會對社會造成重大健康威脅。新加坡將把病人組織樣本送往美國疾病控制與預(yù)防中心進(jìn)行進(jìn)一步檢測。

Singapore's health ministry said the sick man, a post-doctoral student working on the West Nile virus at National University of Singapore, posed only a "low public health risk" because he was isolated quickly. Twenty-five people who had contact with him had been quarantined.
新加坡衛(wèi)生部門說，非典疑似患者是新加坡國立大學(xué)博士后學(xué)生，研究西尼羅河病毒。由于病人很快就被隔離，不會對社會造成多大健康威脅。目前與患者接觸過的25人已被隔離。
★quarantine，A period of time during which a vehicle, person, or material suspected of carrying a contagious disease is detained at a port of entry under enforced isolation to prevent disease from entering a country. 檢疫期、隔離期，當(dāng)運(yùn)輸工具、人或材料被懷疑帶有傳染性疾病，被扣留在港口進(jìn)行強(qiáng)行隔離的一段期限，以防止疾病傳入某個(gè)國家。be in quarantine，被隔離檢疫。
