TOKYO: A cow identified by Japanese experts as having mad cow disease has a new form of the ailment, Farming Minister Yoshiyuki Kamei told reporters yesterday.

The ministry said on Monday that the 23-month-old Holstein cow in Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo, had an "unusual" form of the brain-wasting ailment, formally known as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).
