UN Security Council Nominates South Korean FM as New UN Secretary-General
The U.N. Security Council has nominated South Korea's Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon as the successor to outgoing Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The president of the council says the council believes Ban will be a "good, strong secretary-general."
Ban says, as secretary-general, he will work to make the United Nations more transparent and effective.
The next step in the process is seeking approval from the 192-member General Assembly.
聯(lián)合國安理會任命韓國外交通商部長官潘基文接替即將卸任的聯(lián)合國秘書長安南的職務(wù)。
安理會主席說,安理會相信潘基文將是一位好的和強(qiáng)有力的秘書長。
潘基文說,作為聯(lián)合國秘書長,他將致力于把聯(lián)合國變得更透明和更有效。
任命程序的下一步是尋求共有192個(gè)成員的聯(lián)合國大會的批準(zhǔn)。
