Azahari， a Malaysian from the Al-Qaeda linked Jemaah Islamiyah （JI） militant network known as the "Demolition Man，" was tracked down along with an accomplice， Arman， on Wednesday at their remote hideaway in the town of Batu."During the raid Azahari was hit by three bullets and he did not have time to set off his vest bomb. It was Arman who blew himself up，" police spokesman Sunarko Danu Ardanto told AFP.He said police had found glasses and a handgun belonging to Azahari at the hideaway， a nondescript villa where residents say three men had lived quietly for about three months.A third suspect who was arrested early Wednesday in Semarang， the capital of neighbouring Central Java， had confirmed that they belonged to Azahari， who had eluded Indonesian police for several years.The National Police Chief Sutanto said Thursday that fingerprinting had confirmed one of two bodies recovered from the house was Azahari. He earlier said DNA testing would be required to prove it was truly Azahari， a known master of disguise. It was unclear if this testing was still being carried out.The Malaysian radical's death is a major step forward for Indonesian security services battling JI， the shadowy group accused of staging the deadly 2002 Bali attacks and being behind a triple suicide bombing there last month.Azahari， in his late forties， studied in Australia for four years in the late 1970s and obtained a doctorate in land management in the United Kingdom.He lectured at Malaysia's University of Technology but dropped out of sight during a crackdown on Islamic militants in 2001.
