White House Confirms President Bush Visiting Baghdad
President Bush has arrived in Iraq for an unannounced visit that comes one day after he held talks with his top advisors on the future U.S. role in the country. White House officials confirmed that Mr. Bush is in Iraq for a brief visit to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other officials.
Before the trip was made public, Mr. Bush had been expected to meet via video conference with Iraqi leaders Tuesday from his retreat in Maryland. On Monday, President Bush discussed with advisors how to help Iraq deal with security, economic and energy problems. He also vowed the United States will stand by Iraq as its new defense minister assesses the situation. Mr. Bush declined to make predictions about U.S. troop withdrawals.
