兩個分句中都要求使用同一動詞時，我們通常用助動詞來表示第二個動詞。
A as+原級+as用于肯定句，as/so+原級+as用于否定句：
He worked as slowly as he dared．
他干活敢多么磨蹭就多么磨蹭。
He doesn’t snore as/so loudly as you do．
他打鼾的聲音沒有你響。
It didn’t take as/so long as I expected．
花的時間比我預料的短。
than與比較級連用：
He eats more quickly than I do/than me．
他比我吃得快。 He played better than he had ever played．
他比過去任何時候都演奏得好。
They arrived earlier than I expected．
他們比我預料的到得早。
the+比較級…the+比較級結構中也用副詞：
The earlier you start the sooner you’ll be back．
你出發(fā)得越早，回來得就越早。
級可與of+名詞連用：
He went（the）furthest of the explorers．
在所有探險者中他走得最遠。
但這種結構不常用。這類句子應當用比較級來表達，如上文所述。副詞的級（不加the）＋of all這種結構很常用，但all常指同一主語的其他動作：
He likes swimming best of all．
他最喜歡游泳。（他喜歡游泳勝過其他一切運動。）
這時of all可以省略。
