At least 22 people lost their lives due to heavy rains and flooding that washed away hundreds of houses and farmlands in Shakardara and Paghman districts of Kabul province on Saturday, Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)said Sunday.
"The information we have collected so far, confirms that 20 people, including women and children, had lost their lives in flooding that hit parts of Shakardara district, 25km north of Kabul city on Saturday", NDMA chief Mohammad Dayem Kakar told Xinhua. He added that two more people were wounded in the natural disaster.
The flood had also claimed the lives of two more people in Paghman district, 20 km west of Kabul, he said. "We have sent the rescue team to the area to clean the roads and provide temporary shelters to the flood affected people," Kakar added.
Heavy rains and floods had also claimed the lives of 69 people in Sarobi district 60 km east of Kabul and the eastern Nangarhar and the southeastern Khost provinces last week.
