    I once had a convcrsation with a stu-dent about clothing.I commented to her that I liked her b1ue jeans and askcd where she got them.She said,“Oh,I'm glad you like them,but you see,they are broken.”I laughed to myself because in English,the correct way to express this would be,“My jeans are torn.”It you say“my jeans are‘brokcn’”,it literally means“我的牛仔褲已經(jīng)打碎了”.
