M: Hey, Li Hua. Oh, the elephant house,let's go in and take a look.

M: Pull means to get yourself through a difficult time.
L: 噢， pull an all-nighter，就是迫使自己整夜念書，因?yàn)橐@樣做是很辛苦的。
M: Yep. You wouldn't have to pull an all-nighter because you have been studying all semester, I haven't been.
L: 這你可說對(duì)了。我不需要開夜車，因?yàn)槲艺麄€(gè)一學(xué)期都在學(xué)習(xí)。你要開夜車，因?yàn)槟闫綍r(shí)不學(xué)習(xí)。
M: I know, I know, you're a better student than I am.

M: I don't want to go study either, but I should.

M: I perform better on tests when I cram.

M: Well, it's sort of the same meaning. I'm going to do a lot of studying at the last minute, that's what it means to cram.
L: 意思差不多？噢，我知道了！Cram就是我們中文里說的填鴨式方法，就是硬把食品塞給鴨子吃，這樣鴨子就長(zhǎng)得肥。北京烤鴨就是用這種鴨子做的。你說的cram是臨時(shí)抱佛腳，在考試前猛記猛背，把知識(shí)往腦子里塞。你還認(rèn)為這是好辦法？
M: Well, everyone's different. Cramming works for me.
L: 你認(rèn)為臨時(shí)抱佛腳對(duì)你來說行得通?？墒牵琈ichael，想把半學(xué)期的內(nèi)容在一個(gè)晚上記住，這樣做可真傻。

M: Not really. It's only used to describe studying for a test, usually college or high-school level.
