The elevation readings now made sense and Baker surmised that Lake Victoria flowed down this river, Speke's Nile, into Lake Albert. Although Baker was mesmerised by the waterfall, something else caught his eye. In the river at the bottom of the falls, there was a concentration of surprisingly large crocodiles.
