MRS JOHNSON: Hullo, Mrs Williams. Were you at the butcher's?

MRS WILLIAMS: Yes. I was. Were you at the butcher’s ,too?

MRS JOHNSON: No, I wasn’t. I was at the greengrocer’s. How’s Jimmy today?

MRS WILLIAMS: Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the country! Aren’t you lucky!

Notes on the text課文注釋
1 在英文表示某一種商店的短語中，往往可以把shop這個詞省略，如課文中的the butcher's (shop)和the greengrocer's (shop)。類似的例子還有the hairdresser's (shop), the stationer's (shop), the doctor's(office), my mother's (house)等。
2 在英文中，過去發(fā)生的而現(xiàn)在已經結束的動作要用一般過去時來表示?！笆恰?be)動詞的過去式不規(guī)則‘第一、第三人稱單數(shù)用was，其他情況用were。
3 How are you all keeping?
這是一句問候對方身體如何的話。
4 for the weekend是指整個周末這幾天的時間，而at the weekend是強調時間的某一點。
5 Aren't you lucky!
這句話是否定疑問句形式的感嘆句，為的是加強語氣。盡管形式上是否定的，但卻表示強有力的肯定。
