用法 1
用來(lái)加強(qiáng)語(yǔ)氣或表示強(qiáng)調(diào),意為:事實(shí)上; 其實(shí)。如:
I don’t have a car. As a matter of fact, I can’tdrive. 我沒(méi)有汽車(chē),事實(shí)上我開(kāi)車(chē)都不會(huì)。
I think so, and as a matter of fact, I’m quite sureof it. 我是這樣想的,事實(shí)上我也十分相信是這樣。
I didn’t see him—as a matter of fact I didn’ttry. 我沒(méi)有去看他,事實(shí)上我根本就沒(méi)想去。
用法 2
用來(lái)引出與聽(tīng)話人期待相反的事實(shí),意為:事實(shí)上恰恰相反。如:
He doesn’t mind. As a matter of fact, he’s verypleased. 他不在意,相反他還很高興。
A:He’s too old for the job. 他年紀(jì)太大了,不適合做這項(xiàng)工作。
B:Well, he’s younger than you, as a matter of fact. 但事實(shí)上,他比你要年輕。
A:You must have spoken to him today. 你今天肯定和他談過(guò)了吧。
B:As a matter of fact, I haven’t. 恰恰還沒(méi)有。
A:You’re always late for work. 你上班總是遲到。
B:No, I’m not. As a matter of fact, I’m nearly alwaysearly. 不是的,事實(shí)上恰恰相反,我?guī)缀蹩偸窃绲健?BR> 注:以上用法中的 as a matter of fact 也可以換成 infact 而意義不變。
