頤和園(the Summer Palace)始建時便是一個御花園(imperial garden)。在清朝后期(the late Qing Dynasty)，頤和園遭到了嚴(yán)重破壞。而后清朝的統(tǒng)治者挪用建設(shè)軍隊的經(jīng)費(fèi)重建了頤和園。目前，頤和園是世界上建筑規(guī)模大、保存完整的皇家園林之一，吸收了中國各地建筑的特色。近年來，中國政府幾次對園內(nèi)建筑進(jìn)行修繕。現(xiàn)在，這個古老御花園的面貌煥然一新，成為公眾喜歡的公園之一。

The Summer Palace was constructed as an imperial garden, which was seriously destroyed in the late Qing Dynasty. Later, the Qing rulers reconstructed the garden with the money intended for building up the army. Now the Summer Palace, one of the largest and the best-preserved royal gardens in the world, has absorbed the architectural features from all parts of China In recent years, the Chinese government has repaired and reconstructed the buildings in the garden several times.
