Ⅰ. ask “問、詢問”是最普通的用語，通常表示只是為了獲得回答或了解某事而提問。如：
① I asked him if he could come. 我問他能不能來。
② I’ll ask him how to get there. 我要問他怎樣去那兒。
Ⅱ. inquire “問、詢問”表查究，調(diào)查的意思。如：
① I have inquired of him whether he could help me. 我已問過他是否能幫助我。
② She came to inquire about her friend’s health. 她來詢問她朋友的健康情況。
③ He inquired of me about our work. 他向我了解了我們的工作情況。
Ⅲ. question “詢問、審問、提問”含有提出一連串問題的意味。如：
① I questioned him about the matter.我問過他這件事。
② He was questioned by the police. 他受到警察的審問。
① I asked him if he could come. 我問他能不能來。
② I’ll ask him how to get there. 我要問他怎樣去那兒。
