Beauty就是美麗的意思。Beauty is only skin-deep，這個(gè)說法的意思就是：美貌只是表面現(xiàn)象。換句話也就是說，外表的美貌并不能說明這個(gè)人的本質(zhì)。下面這個(gè)例句就說明了這一點(diǎn)：
"Sure, Mrs. Brown is the best-looking woman in town. But you know what they say: beauty is only skin-deep. Underneath, she's about as mean and sti ngy as anybody can be."
