    Text 1
W: Hello, David. I hope I haven’t kept you waiting.
M: Not at all. I’ve only just got here myself. Let’s see what is on the menu today.
    Text 2
M: Hello, this is Tom Davis. I have an appointment with Dr Jones for 9 o’clock this morning, but I’m afraid I’ll
have to arrive half an hour late.
W: That’s all right. Dr Jones doesn’t have another appointment until 10 o’clock.
    Text 3
M: Do you live very far from your work?
W: It’s about 20 miles, but it doesn’t seem that far. The road is good and there’s not much traffic.
    Text 4
M: How many tapes did you buy the other day, Alice?
W: Six. I bought them for 2 dollars a piece, including tax.
    Text 5
    W: How do you feel?
M: Oh, I’ve never felt better. Besides, some of my old clothes would fit me if I lost about 40 pounds.
    Text 6
M: What’s going on around here? Why is everyone changing offices?
W: Well, there are a lot of changes being made here this week. Marta and Jim are leaving.
M: Where are they going? Did they get a higher position?
W: Marta’s going to the office in Atlanta. She is going to be in charge of the whole southern market.
M: That sounds like a good position for her. What about Jim?
W: He is going to manage the whole plant in California.
    Text 7
W: Shopping is hard work, Tom, isn’t it?
    M: True. I’m glad it’s over.
W: Do you want to go home now?
M: Yes, I think I’ll take the things we bought home.
W: Okay. I’ll go to the office. I’ve got lots to do. I’ll come home later, straight from the office.
M: OK. I’d better hurry. My brother’s waiting at the house to help carry the television in.
W: Good. I hope he’ll still be there when I get home — I haven’t seen your brother for ages. No, wait, I forgot to
tell you. I’ll be home late tonight. I’ve got a meeting at 5 o’clock.
M: When do you think it will end?
W: I’m not sure. Still, I should be home by eight. If I think I’ll be later than 8 o’clock I’ll call you.
M: OK. It’s nice now that your office is in City Square. You don’t have to travel very far at all.
W: I certainly appreciate it. I’d better go now. Take care. I’ll see you later. Bye bye.
